Bret Garwood, the man who has served as the point person for the city of Rochester on the redevelopment of the Midtown Plaza site and other high-profile projects, is stepping down in order to accept a position with the state Department of Homes and Community Renewal in January. Police are now offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for vandalizing cars with anti-Semitic slogans. State College Police say at least 12 vehicles that were parked near several fraternities in the 400 and 500 blocks of Berry Alley in State College were vandalized by spray painting anti-Semitic slogans, swastikas, sexual graphics and more on theme. The tables have turned on a Blair County Prison worker after he was caught bringing drugs to work… at the prison. 27 year-old Fred Zigler is now in jail, on the other side of the bars, after police say he showed up for his shift at the prison with Oxycontin, Oxycodone, and Acetaminophen tablets. Zigler is charged with possession with intent to deliver and other drug charges. Four people were injured and taken to an area hospital after flames broke out in their Everette home Sunday night. The Bedford County 911 Center reports that a duplex on North Spring Street caught fire around 7:00 last night. The four were taken to UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. A fire in Centre County left a business in ruins. Fire crews were called out to a large fire at Scott’s Landscaping along Maple Drive in Potter Township. The call came in around 6:30 Sunday evening. A total of six companies responded. Firefighters said heavy winds made it difficult to manage the blaze. The winds also caused trees to catch fire in the area too. According to the monthly survey by the Siena Research Institute, confidence among upstate consumers slid to its lowest level in nearly two years in October. Overall confidence-which includes current and future confidence-fell to 65.2 from 71.7 in September and 75.6 a year ago. Frontier Communications Corp. shares were trading up 5 percent Wednesday afternoon after the company reported its third-quarter results. Frontier reported net income attributable to common shareholders of $35.4 million, or 4 cents a share, compared with $67 million, or 7 cents a share in 2012. Excluding the impact of special items, the company reported adjusted net income of $56.5 million, or 6 cents a share. Revenue for the third quarter topped $1.2 billion. Sen. Charles Schumer is pitching Upstate New York as an international center for the semiconductor and chip fabrication industry.
