Federal prosecutors say a former area International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers official is now convicted of double-billing the union for expenses to collect some $39,000 in illegitimate payments.
Mark Valerio pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Rochester on Wednesday to a charge of failure to maintain records. Valerio was elected president of IBEW Local 249 in Geneva in 2003, he resigned in 2012.
He could be facing up to a year in prison and a $10,000 fine when he’s sentenced in December.
The conviction also bars Valerio from serving in a union leadership post for 13 years.
