A Canandaigua paving contractor has been convicted of tax evasion
Federal Prosecutors on Wednesday ordered Richard Williams, owner and operator of Richard’s Paving, to pay $123,628 to the Internal Revenue Service.
Williams was found to have had customers pay with checks made out to him personally. He then cashed the checks at his customers’ banks, gave the banks phony social security numbers and never reported the income.
Williams was convicted of evading taxes owed for the 2010 tax year after an investigation by the IRS’ Criminal Investigation Division. He also was ordered to serve three years’ probation.
